Chair Letter

Hello Delegates,

My name is Juliette Alvarado and I am so excited to be this year's Chair for UNPBC at BruinMUN 2024. I am a current fourth-year Global Studies major with an associates in Music Composition. I originally transferred to UCLA from my community college back in my hometown of Victorville California. When I’m not writing about the complex entanglement of issues facing our global community, I enjoy traveling and photographing beautiful landscapes, playing video games (roblox), and line dancing on Thursday nights with my friends back home.

At my community college I explored many avenues of subjects and after my first year realized I was passionate about International Relations and it was then that one of my advisors suggested I try out the club. When I first started I was incredibly shy, and fresh out of quarantine, but after my first conference, started to get the hang of things and really opened myself up to the club. Soon after joining, I became the president of my college’s MUN club and got to compete against fantastic schools such as Harvard and UCLA for two years up until my acceptance for transfer to become a Bruin. My time in Model UN has certainly been exciting and fulfilling getting to meet people from various backgrounds and learning about a wide array of topics across the globe and while competing is fun, it was also an enormous pleasure to be a staffer for LAMUN’s DnD Cerulean JCC and I cannot wait to Chair this year’s BruinMUN UNPBC.

I am certain that UNPBC will be an exciting committee that is dually invigorating and informative and will allow for insightful discourse on what it means to fortify, strengthen, and sustain peace after conflict. Containing 31 member states all chosen from GA, Security Council and ECOSOC, the UNPBC is a commission tasked with one of the most difficult questions throughout history and still present today, how to create sustainable long-lasting peace particularly after conflict. I look forward to seeing innovative solutions and engaging discussions on what it means to build peace after conflict.

Can’t wait to see you all,

Juliette Alvarado | Chair, PBC | BruinMUN 32
