Committee Profile

Welcome to the International Olympic Committee! It is our sacred privilege to guard the Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement. The IOC catalyzes global collaboration among athletes, International Federations, National Olympic Committees, and other Olympic stakeholders. We facilitate partnerships with public and private authorities including the United Nations to fulfill our vision of Building a Better World through Sport.

The Session is the supreme organ of the committee, wherein all decisions are final. Our next session aims to address and rectify decades of past transgressions. A history of scandal has littered the honored name of the IOC, as corruption and bribery were committed under the cover of fair sport. This corresponds to the increasingly capitalistic and commercialistic nature of the games, which have taken root since the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles. Politicians and the business elite have seized upon the games as an opportunity for economic development, strengthening of infrastructure, image, and prestige. Though the spectacle of the Olympics has been possible by the displacement of those least able to bare it.

The IOC aims to protect and uphold Olympic values, depending on the wise and reflective decisions of our members, as we go on to create unity through sport.

Chair Letter

Hello Delegates!

Welcome! My name is Prisha Narasimhan (she/her) and I’m extremely honored to be the chair of Novice: International Olympic Committee!

I am a second-year student at UCLA majoring in Economics, Statistics and Data Science and minoring in Global Studies. In time, I hope to pursue a career in foreign service. I love to paint, listen to music (I try to listen to a different album whenever I’m walking to class), thrift, play the piano, try different foods, and play MarioKart (on the ancient Wii though).

I have participated in MUN since my freshman year of high school back in the Bay Area (specifically San Ramon). My experience in MUN began as I wanted to face my struggles with

public speaking. Over my freshmen year, while I continued to have trouble articulating my thoughts into words, I fell in love with having thoughtful and substantial conversations about ongoing and past events with fellow delegates, and developing a rather extensive research process to help me prepare for each conference (I always created a country profile for every nation I have represented). Since joining Model UN at UCLA, I’ve had the joy of staffing at BruinMUN and LAMUN as a crisis staffer.

The Olympics is an event I hold very dear to me. I’ve been closely following the Games since the London 2012 Summer Olympics (including all of the surrounding controversies), and my favorite sports to watch are artistic gymnastics and figure skating. The Olympics is a rare moment occurring once every two years when the world unites to celebrate athletic achievement in a spirited yet competitive environment.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is tasked with encouraging the promotion and preservation of Olympic values. These notions are imperative to uphold as the sense of comradery the Olympics bestow must be maintained into the future as the world juggles through conflicts. With this committee, I greatly look forward to a meaningful, critical, and thoughtful debate as you all tackle pressing ethical issues as members of the IOC. I can’t wait to hear and read all of your creative and well-researched solutions and I look forward to meeting all of you this BruinMUN!

Please feel free to reach out if you have any doubts or questions.

Good Luck,

Prisha Narasimhan | Chair | BruinMUN 31
